How to Show Appreciation for Our Military on Social Media

Updated: Nov 21, 2024

Aside from Memorial Day and Veterans Day, there are several more days to thank our military. It is important to acknowledge all the military branches. Some of your social media followers may be veterans or have active service members in their family who will appreciate your support of the U.S. military. Elected officials acknowledge our military frequently on their social media to engage with their constituents. If you are a veteran, I recommend posting about the U.S. military. In this blog, I have included additional military days for you to include in your content calendar. I also include two social media example posts acknowledging the military from two elected officials.

1. Acknowledge the Establishments of U.S. Military Branches

On social media, you can write “Happy Birthday to the U.S. Air Force founded on this day in 1947…”. Another way to write your post, “On this day in 1775, the U.S. Marine Corps was founded…”. The next sentence can be written like this “today and everyday, we are grateful for your service protecting our country.” Be sure and include an image of the specific military branch alongside the caption. You can include the American flag emoji in your post as well.

2. Military Appreciation Month

May is Military Appreciation Month. Again, express your gratitude for our military on May 1st. There are specific appreciation days throughout the month of May to acknowledge on your social media. For example, the Friday before Mother’s Day is Military Spouse Appreciation Day. Notably, Memorial Day is at the end of May.

3. Sharing pictures

Free images are available if you use Canva Pro if you wish to create a graphic to acknowledge the establishments of our military branches.. If you do not have time to create graphics, you can share a military appreciation post from an appropriate social media page.

If your campaign meets with veterans at a meet and greet for example, take a picture with them, and share on your social media. You can also take a picture at a Memorial Day service. If you are a veteran, you can also share a picture of your time in the military.

Mark these military dates to your social media calendar to engage with your followers. In addition to thanking our U.S. military, it is also ideal to acknowledge your state’s military forces. For example, if you are a candidate in the state of Texas, you can acknowledge the foundation of the Texas National Guard (February 18th, 1823). Including military appreciation posts on your social media proves your campaign cares for freedom.

Two Examples

State Senator Tan Parker wishes a happy birthday to our navy.
