Republican County Parties, Political Action Committees, and Clubs have spent the majority of 2022 promoting endorsed federal, statewide, and local candidates on social media and email blasts to remind subscribers, members, and followers to attend campaign events, register to vote, volunteer for campaigns, and to vote.
Midterm Elections have come and gone. Some of you who administer Republican political organization marketing platforms may wonder, “What now?”, “What content do I need to post?” If you are stumped on content ideas, here is your guide to engage your followers so they can see your political organization is still active.
Pay close attention to the candidates (now newly-elected officials) your organization helped elect on social media. If a candidate shares pictures from their orientation, training, being sworn in, or photos of them working in their new office on social media, repost it. It is important to keep up and repost their activities because those candidates may need your help when they are up for re-election!
2. Share Legislative Session Updates
Post updates on your state's legislative session on social media. Share the top legislative priorities. Share details of who controls the majority and minorities in your state’s legislature and where Republicans made gains from the election. Share updates of candidates you helped elect on if they were appointed to committees or details of bills in the works. Find and share the link on your platforms for the legislative session livestream to watch incumbent and newly-elected legislators work!
3. Post about policies
What policies are making current headlines now? Find a policy your organization is passionate about. Write a blurb about how the current administration is violating that policy (ex. Abortion bans) and share how your followers can get involved (ex. March for Life rallies). You can also ask policy-related questions. I would recommend “yes” or “no” questions, it is less likely your followers will start a social media argument if they just answer your policy question with a “yes” or “no” reply on social media. Sample question, “Do you think the U.S. should have a budget when it comes to foreign aid?”
4. Talk about upcoming Municipal Elections
Does your organization endorse candidates for municipal elections? If so, I encourage you to share municipal election information. Municipal Elections occur every two years and the offices on the ballot are school boards and municipal government (mayor, city council, etc.). Look up notable dates including first and last day of filing for a place on the ballot, voter registration deadline, early voting, and of course Election Day.
Share with your followers to mark those important dates because municipal elections will be here before we know it! Also, you never know if one of your followers might file to run in the municipal election!
5. Holidays, Awareness Days, Appreciation Days
The holidays are around the corner after general elections. Prepare Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, New Years, MLK Day Jr. graphics to post on social media. If you want to reuse your organization’s holiday graphics from last year, go for it! I also recommend creating graphics for appreciation days. For example, Law Enforcement Appreciation Day is on January 9th. National Religious Freedom Day is on January 16th.
6. Upcoming Events
Does your Republican organization have upcoming events? If so, create flyers and share them on social media. Organizing events will guarantee engagement for your organization.
I hope these six tips will help you generate content ideas for your political organization. I recommend creating a social media calendar to remind you to post. You can create posts and schedule posts on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter as well. It is important to keep your social media engagement consistent!
