Regardless of where you are in your political career, a candidate, volunteer, or staff member, I encourage you to get up early on a Saturday morning or on a weeknight to attend a campaign training because politics is ongoing learning. There is no end date to learn new information.
1. Gain new insights
At a campaign training, you will gain new insights on data, statistics, legal advice, and tips from political strategists, consultants, and elected officials. Take notes on their experiences from political campaigns.
2. Refresh your brain on important information
I recommend taking notes on important information that may have slipped your mind that you have heard about before whether it is legal tips or fundraising strategies.
3. Learn how to run for office
If you filed to run for office, campaign training is the place to learn campaign structure and receive important resources from political veterans who have managed previous campaigns.
4. Opportunity to Ask Questions
Do not hesitate to ask questions during campaign training. Take advantage of getting complimentary answers from political consultants, strategists, or staff. Campaign school is supposed to be interactive. They will be happy to answer your questions.
5. Network
I recommend networking with the political strategists, consultants, elected officials because they will be useful contacts to keep in case you have a question for them later. Please network with fellow attendees whether it is the county party chairman, a former political staffer, a volunteer. You never know if you might work with them in the future on a campaign!
6. Stay in the loop on Upcoming Events
There may be time set aside for announcements during training where you may receive a hardcopy save the date or official invitation for an upcoming political event.
Political organizations organize campaign trainings. Be on the lookout on their websites, email updates and social media for campaign training invitations so you don’t miss out!
Texas Latino Conservatives will host a LeadershipLATINO Class planned for Summer of 2023. Stay tuned for details!
Final Considerations
Campaign training may last two hours or six hours depending on whether it takes place on a weeknight or on a Saturday. Bring your laptop, notebook, business cards, and a snack bag. Breakfast and lunch will be provided if training takes place on a Saturday. You will not regret gaining expertise in the political field.
Have you attended a campaign training before? If so, what important lessons did you learn?
